This is a photo of my measuring jig; it is a rotatable bracket to simulate trials bike brackets. It allows me to compare available footrests from the same mounting. All dimension in descriptions are taken from the vertical & horizontal centre lines. It may have become clear to you that I am nutty about footrests, it occured to me that as I have become more involved I have evolved a "secret" language of my own in order to compare the salient functions and dimensions of the trials motorbike footrest. This is because i believe them to be just as much a control device on a trials bike as any other control..handlebars, clutch, brakes etc. Taking into account hundreds of hours of testing of many variables by myself and some of the best riders in recent trials history it is clear that a few millimetres here and a few degrees there make profound differences to the feel and response of a trials bike. I made a simple jig to be able to mount any trials footrest that uses the standard female fork with 25mm. between the fork and 17mm. from centre of mounting hole to the back face. This allows me to compare features quickly and accurately and thus be able to know what I'm talking about when discussing this specialist subject. If you know what bike you have and what you hope to gain by changing footrests I can use this tool to verify that I have the right thing for you.
